Barefoot Contessas

Ever since I watched "My Neighbor Tototo," I couldn't get making Asian food and bento boxes out of my head. I even got a rice cooker and went to Little Tokyo to find a cute lunch compartment like the ones my mom used to pack my food in. Simple pleasures.

It was a fun rainy day spent cooking with my sister. After it was all said and done, we were too bloated from sushi rolls to do what we had originally planned: Watch the original "Tron." But here are some pics from the day!

Cucumber and tempura strips -- I love the colors

Daikon (which I hate and always take out of my sushi), crab and egg strips -- more pretty colors!

Brushing the dry seaweed with sesame oil for flavor

Flattening the sticky rice. I used to use this stuff as glue back when we couldn't afford it, haha!

Day 141
Finished product! My sister's so much better at cooking than me.

It's funny how much I crave rice now that I don't have easy access to it at my parent's place. Thank you, Mom, for this cute one! I'm also a pretty picky eater, and I can only really eat like five things, all consisting of carbs or starch or fat. So everything I wanted to make was going to be dipped in egg batter, and I had to concede when I figured that would give me a heart attack.

Fish sausage in egg batter

I never want to find out what's in Spam. I just know it tastes freaking delicious when it's fried up in egg batter.

The end product. I made one for Edgar to take home with me. The shaped rice balls make me happy. :)
