As a beginner photographer and a self-proclaimed purist, I've really been hesitant about using Photoshop -- and with good reason. It's really easy to abuse it as a quick-fix for shoddy work, and I'm a firm believer that a strong foundation, or a good original photo, is essential. Not only that, but there are already plenty of photographers who add layers and layers to a photo to make regular women like me feel freakish about cellulite and pores. I want no part in that.
A chat with photographer/mentor Al Nomura has made me think a little differently about post-production work. Like with anything else in life, moderation is key, but why not take advantage of any extra help you can get? And since I've started shooting in Raw, I've had a lot more creative control over my work.
PS can easily change my dingy background to a solid white.
And soften Mason's complexion.
